Carpe Diem

Carpe Diem. Seize the Day.
It’s been a long icy cold winter. Finally, Spring has sprung. One might be thinking that finally the cloud will lift and moods will lighten once again. One might even think that just like that, it’s done. But just like with any season, traces of it can be visible, even for a little while, into the next. Just like that little skiff of snow this morning covering the mud, finding the happy sunshiny skip in our step can be covered by the weight of winter’s mood. But we don’t have to stay there. Here are a few things that can be done to take steps forward and seize the day.
First, be kind to yourself. I’ve heard many complaining that with this long winter came the effects of ‘couch-potatoing’, you know, sitting, eating, and eating, and sitting some more. It was too icy to get out and with sitting on the couch comes mindless eating and now ‘just like that’ (right!), it’s Spring and ‘I’m fat!’ Let’s start with can we just be kind! To ourselves and to others, can we just be kind with our words and consider the effect they have on us. Spring comes every year and if weight gain has happened, then thankfully with the melting snow and ice comes opportunity to get out and walk. Either find a friend and walk or walk and find a friend! With each of these, self-care is represented. An attitude of self-care is important to seizing the day!
Secondly, with a positive attitude comes a desire to reach more, to do more, and to BE more. But what if I can’t? With a focused desire, with accountability and support, and with even a faint vision of what could be, the possibilities are great! With each of these, yes, you can! The hardest step is always the first one, followed by the second one, but with each, the steps get easier. The longer you wait, the more you convince yourself of greater difficulties than what actually exist. The longer you wait, the less likely you will take the steps. Start today! Seize that day!
By taking care of yourself, by getting that attitude in check and seeing the possibilities, and by finally setting the goal and action planning it through, today, you can start the process and seize the day! Today you can begin exploring, grooming, and developing the person you will be once you achieve your goal. This is not an overnight journey; it’s an investment in the rest of your life! It’s a step of transformation into the real you. It’s a bounce in your step on this glorious sunshiny day! What are you waiting for? Seize the Day!
